Shown here are the two playbooks I created to help manage the everboarding process for new hires into the BMG (Business Machines Group) sales organization. The manager playbook was created to document the onboarding process for managers and to ensure consistency between sales teams. There was a very low turnover rate within Brother and documenting the process for managers allowed me to minimize the time necessary for me to be actively engaged and for me to focus my energy on other projects.
The new hire playbook was created to update and modernize the documentation provided to new hires.
I use the term everboarding because the process of onboarding is not something that ever really ends. There are always new things to learn as the business environment and technology are always changing.
The Manager's Playbook is designed to be a resource that guides you, as the manager, through the everboarding process, helping to ensure that key processes, procedures, responsibilities, and tasks are consistently handled. It is intended to be used in conjunction with the New Hire Playbook. Both playbooks are flexible tools meant to support managers and new employees during their first 90 days of employment, and can also serve as a reference beyond that period.
This playbook is not a comprehensive document, but it provides sales leaders with the flexibility to determine what information is most important to them. Each sales team within BMG has different focuses and processes, and this playbook allows for customization to meet those unique needs.
The New Hire Onboarding Playbook is designed to be a comprehensive guide that helps new employees seamlessly transition into their roles. Structured around a 30-60-90 day framework, it outlines the essential tasks, training, and resources needed from day one.
The playbook emphasizes regular meetings with managers, the completion of administrative tasks, and the use of key resources like the Brother Acronym List and the BMG SharePoint site to address common questions. It provides detailed guidance on important processes, procedures, responsibilities, and tasks while encouraging collaboration with internal teams and active participation in team meetings to help build a strong foundation for success.
The everboarding process is designed to be flexible and iterative, promoting ongoing communication with managers and peers to quickly address any challenges that may arise.
